Ani LeDodi VeDodi Li – Hodesh Tov Umvorach!

The special and powerful month of Elul is upon us; a month of mercy and forgiveness; a month of renewal;  a month of spirituality; and a time most propitious to come close to HaShem.  It is the month of Teshuvah.  HaShem informed Moshe on Rosh Hodesh Elul that he had began to forgive the Jewish people for the sin of the golden calf.Ani LeDodi VeDodi Li - NJ

On that very day Moshe ascended mount Sinai to receive the second tablets. On Yom Kippur Moshe descended with them. Since that time, these 40 days from the first of Elul until Yom Kippur is a time of divine mercy where G-D’S hand(so to speak) is outstretched to receive us.

As mentioned it is an auspicious and favorable time to better our ways and come closer to HaShem.

Tomorrow we begin Selihot at 530 in the morning. Let us all make a strong effort not to squander this great opportunity to turn over a new leaf and to tell HaShem that we’re sorry for our previous transgressions. We can recharge our spiritual battery and renew our commitment to the Torah and our relationship with our father in heaven.

Those who exert themselves and put in the effort shall reap the benefits and feel contentment in their souls.

I wish everybody a productive and powerful Elul.

Kol Tuv,
Rabbi
Aaron Hai Shemtob
